Curriculum
Alpine Christian School uses the Memoria Press Curriculum for students in Bridge K through 5th Grade for Language, Writing, Spelling/Poetry, Reading, Bible History, Science, Geography, and Math. Memoria Press is a family-run publishing company that produces simple and easy-to-use classical Christian education materials for private schools. It was founded by Cheryl Lowe in 1994 to help promote and transmit the classical heritage of the Christian West through an emphasis on the liberal arts and the great works of the Western tradition. The curriculum is memory intensive, which is fitting for young students and progresses comprehensively as students get older.
Memoria Press’ Rod and Staff mathematics program is based on mastery learning based on memorization and repeated practice in the lower grades. Students must over-learn basic math skills in middle school in order to be successful in the more conceptual high school math.
Our Latin curriculum is published by Classical Academic Press. Designed, revised, and continually sharpened since 2001, the award-winning Latin for Children curriculum continues to be a strong, inviting, and creative program designed to introduce students to Latin. It incorporates elements that will engage students of every learning style. When used as a whole, this series trains students in grammar, vocabulary, and English derivatives in a lively, interactive way that is perfectly suited to students in the grammar stage. The Latin for Children series is taught directly to the child and is a perfect choice for teachers and parents, including those who will be learning along with their students.
Each workbook is easy to use, incremental, and filled with clear grammatical explanations written expressly for the student. Exercises, quizzes, and a useful reference section are also included. Lessons teach mnemonic aids (songs, chants) that enable students to learn vocabulary and grammar with ease and delight. There are clear explanations of grammar in every chapter, written at the student’s level. Guidance is given for both classical and/or ecclesiastical pronunciations.
Our upper class students use Wilson Hill Academy for their curriculum. Wilson Hill Academy exists to provide college-bound students with a classical Christian education founded upon and informed by a biblical worldview; equipping them to know, love, and practice that which is true, good and beautiful, and preparing them to live obedient, fruitful lives in the service of God and man.
The highlight of the upper school experience are The Great Conversation courses, that utilize the Omnibus for the textbook. Omnibus is many things. It is a history course. A literature program. A philosophy survey. A theology class. But what it is primarily is a Classical six-year building-a-Christian-worldview boot camp. Combining all these different aspects, Omnibus explores the thoughts and philosophies from Ancient times to the present while teaching you to analyze them by the light of God’s word. You can’t enter the battle unless you’ve been properly trained, and Omnibus is high-quality training ground. Designed for junior high through high school, Omnibus is a refreshingly challenging and rigorous curriculum that will blow every other mediocre approach to high school education out of the water.
