Bobby Duncan, Executive Director: Mr. Duncan has been associated with Alpine Christian School since 2008. He has served the school in a variety of positions including being a former member of the Board of Directors, Treasurer as well as Executive Director. Mr. Duncan’s commitment to the execution of the Faith Based Mission of ACS is paramount to his fulfillment of God’s Will. His unrelenting philosophy, to “leave the world better than you found it”, is illustrated by just some of his actions; whether pulling weeds, conducting Chapel, greeting Parents and Students daily, supporting our Teachers, ensuring that ACS delivers the very best Classical Christian education to our students, promoting and broadening the reach and awareness of ACS and its positive impact on our world and so many more. Mr. Duncan is a former public company executive, adjunct professor, lecturer, public speaker, business advisor, and graduate and former Distinguished Student of Texas A&M University . He has sat on numerous boards and has a very broad knowledge and experience in leading and managing companies in a variety of industries over his 40+ year career. Mr. Duncan and his wife Carolyn, own embroideryco.com, a commercial embroidery, screen-printing and promotional products company serving companies throughout North America. They have two children who have blessed them with six beautiful grandchildren.
Peggy Thornsburg, M.Ed., M.A., Administration:
Graduate of Stephen F. Austin State University with a Bachelor of Science in Elementary and Special Education. After college, Mrs. Thornsburg realized her dream and became an elementary school teacher. When her children were born, Peggy stayed home to homeschool them. From there, she returned to teaching, simultaneously earning 2 Master’s degrees in Administration and Special Education. Leaving the classroom to become an education specialist, she was then offered a Fellowship at University of Texas Health Science Center-Houston in Leadership Education in Neurodevelopmental Disabilities. Following her work at McGovern School of Medicine, Department of Psychiatry Autism Clinic, Peggy, and her husband Kim retired to Marfa, where they now reside.
With a strong commitment to Alpine Christian School, Mrs. Thornsburg realizes every student is a unique child of God. They require a caring, inspiring, and engaging atmosphere in which to grow emotionally, intellectually, and socially. As an educator, Peggy helps pupils meet their fullest potential in these areas by providing a safe, risk-taking, and collaborative environment. Wanting our students to develop positive character and leadership traits based upon a firm foundation of acceptance of our Lord Jesus Christ she believes a positive Classical Christian Education is essential in creating successful life-long learners and strong Christians.
Tonya Hamby, M.Ed., High School Coordinator/Lead Teacher: Mrs. Hamby has been teaching at Alpine Christian School for 6 years and leads our 8th-12th grade students. She also taught our Bridge-K program in prior years at ACS at our original location. She has a Bachelor's degree in Education, a certification in Gifted and Talented Education, and a Master's degree in Counseling. She and her husband have two daughters who have both attended ACS. Caitlyne, the younger daughter, graduated from ACS in May of 2019 and is attending Patrick Henry College. Mrs. Hamby has loved watching what Alpine Christian School provides for the Alpine community and surrounding areas and feels blessed to be part of it.
Mrs. Hamby also leads our Horsemanship Program and trains students to become better riders. God, faith, and family are her priorities. ACS is truly blessed and honored to have Mrs. Hamby and share in the miracles God has bestowed upon our school over the last 17 years.
Jessica Hinojos, M.Ed., Junior High School Coordinator: Ms. Hinojos leads our Middle School students through their rigorous curriculum, teaches math, and assists the Fit-15 program.
Ms. H, as her students call her, was born and raised in Alpine and attended Alpine High School & Sul Ross State University. She has one son and enjoys being with her family and friends, hiking, drawing, and being creative. She is Catholic and has been a faithful follower of Christ since she was a teenager. She has served in many job positions but found her passion in educating students as a math tutor, leading her back to school to obtain her Master's Degree in Education that she completed December 2019.
Ms. Hinojos directs students in many insightful and creative presentations throughout the year and influences them to strive to be their best in everything they do. She has also led her students to be amazing note takers and proficient in math as they enter high school. Her favorite scripture is "In the end three things remain: Faith, Hope, and Love. But the greatest one of all is love." 1 Corinthians 13:13.
Nancy Wallace M.Ed., 3rd & 4th Grade Teacher: Nancy returns to Alpine Christian School with thirty-three years of experience in education, a Bachelor of Science degree, and Master’s Degree in Education Related Sciences. She is certified in elementary level teaching, elementary history, special education, early childhood development and is an Educational Diagnostician. She has attended numerous workshops and hours of training in reading, writing, math, science, dyslexia, and phonics. Nancy has also worked as a Librarian, Social Worker, and Foster Adopt Trainer.
Nancy’s faith and love for Jesus is reflected in teaching her students. She has served on the music team for her church and helped with Vacation Bible School. She believes that the Holy Spirit opens minds and hearts to hear and respond to the Gospel.
Nancy and her husband, Rudi, have been married for 40 years and have one son who teaches Latin in San Antonio, TX. They love Alpine and are excited to be part of the community at Alpine Christian School.
Chrisanta De La O, 1st & 2nd Grade Teacher: Mrs. Chrisanta De La O is Alpine Christian School's newest addition to the teaching staff. Mrs. De La O comes to ACS with the requisite academics, a plethora of experience, and is well qualified to perform this important job. Ms. De La O is a life-long learner and she, along with her husband David, have a tremendous passion for and long history with Alpine Christian School.
Kristie Mendoza, Kindergarten Teacher: Mrs. Mendoza was born in Alpine and is the youngest of five sisters. She was raised in Sanderson and Fort Stockton and attended Sul Ross State University. She has been married to her husband, George, for 23 years and they have been blessed with five sons and one daughter. Any free time she has is spent reading Scripture, writing, and Bible journaling. She loves Christian praise music and often plays it for her students during school. Her favorite Bible verses are Isaiah 54:17 and Matthew 17:20 which she stands on daily. Mrs. Mendoza has been a true prayer warrior for Alpine Christian School.
Being in education for over nine years, Mrs. Mendoza has helped provide reading intervention to children and improve their fluency, reading comprehension, phonological awareness, phonemic awareness, and other reading strategies. She loves boosting students’ confidence in reading and their skills to continue improving. She also worked in the Library and read to multiple grade levels of students daily. Alpine Christian School has enjoyed her love for reading, especially when she organizes our annual Book Fair and puts an extreme amount of time and effort into hosting the event.
Denise Olazaba, Bridge-K Teacher: Mrs. O, as her students call her, was born and raised in Alpine. She married her best friend, Steve. They have been married for over 19 years and share two wonderful sons. As a family, they enjoy camping, fishing, and traveling. Mrs. O loves spending her free time with family, baking, cooking, crocheting, and crafting. Her favorite Bible verse is Joshua 24:15, “as for me and my house we will serve the Lord.”
Mrs. O is a member of Grace Christian Fellowship where she received her calling to work with children. Every summer, she helps take over 60 children to Discovery Camp where she has an opportunity to take part in the seed that is planted in every child. She has that opportunity at Alpine Christian School as she prays with students and teaches them about Jesus every day.
Mrs. O is very excited about this upcoming school year and looks forward to seeing her students. We are truly blessed by her enthusiasm, her energy, and the amazing spiritual gifts she offers our school and our students.
Susana Busey, Language & Enrichment Teacher: ACS is pleased to have Mrs. Busey as our Latin & Spanish Teacher and After School Care Coordinator. This is her fourth year teaching at ACS where she adds an amazing energy to our school with her passion for Jesus Christ and love for children. She has a passion and pursuit to excel and help others grow. Mrs. Busey is a certified Christian counselor through the Crisis Recovery Institute of Texas and has taken courses to understand children and family development through the Birth2Work program. She is always continuing her education and learning, especially about child development.
Mrs. Busey believes that in today’s challenging society, she can apply her knowledge and teaching methods to supplement the classical education that her students receive. Mrs. Busey is married to a jeweler, has two sons, loves trees and cats, and enjoys watching the sunrise in the mornings. She treasures friendship, loves teaching and cooking, and believes very much in the power of prayer. Mrs. Busey has been teaching for 17 years and we are so blessed to have her as part of our ACS family. Her students admire her passion and enthusiasm.
