Faculty and Staff
Dr. Joshua Farris, Executive Director: Dr. Farris grew up in public school education in Illinois and pursued advanced education at a small religious school in St. Louis, MO. During his graduate and doctoral studies, he began to develop a vision for a classical mind through various authors like C.S. Lewis, Dorothy Sayers, and reading of the great works by Aristotle, Plato, and Augustine. It was during and after his doctoral studies that he gained a glimpse into what he missed as a child. It was there that he began to see that there is a world that transcends this world that these great minds have given us. They are a gift. And, it is a gift that continues to give. These great works help frame the mind to think, shape the emotions for withstanding struggle and temptation in our transient times. And, even more than that, a Classical education trains us to look beyond the practical trivialities of this life, so that our purpose might be something that endures no matter where the culture may be at the present moment in history.
Previously, Dr. Farris was a Professor at Mundelein Seminary, University of Saint Mary of the Lake and part-time Lecturer at Auburn University Montgomery. He was the Assistant Professor of Theology at Houston Baptist University from 2014-2019 (serving in the Theology department, Great Texts department, the Honors College, the Academy, and the Philosophy department). While there he was nominated by the School of Humanities for the Piper Professor Nomination in 2018. He also served as Chester and Margaret Paluch Professor at Mundelein Seminary.
Practically speaking, Dr. Farris intends ACS to be an institution where higher learning occurs, and where there is a culture of learning, thinking, and characters are formed. He also intends ACS to be a service to the wider Alpine area through community service and by providing some of the most intellectually honest and rigorous lectures.
Amanda Peppers, Administrative Assistant/Grant Writer: One of the blessings of Alpine Christian School rests in an Administrative Assistant who lightens the burden of others and Amanda Peppers is that gift for ACS. She graduated from Sul Ross State University with a Bachelor of Arts degree in History/English and has previously worked for the Center of Big Bend Studies, Borderlands Research Institute, and Muscular Dystrophy Association writing grants, fundraising, developing relationships with volunteers and the community, and organizing social events.
Amanda has dedicated her time at Alpine Christian School the last few months to writing grants for certain programs and initiatives.
